Alaska has many beautiful cruise ports. Most Alaskan cruise ports are small towns and cities with the exception of a few. Here are few of these Alaskan cruise ports that are very well known and worth a visit.
- Anchorage: It is the largest city in Alaska. Throughout the ages sailors from many countries have visited anchorage in order to establish a base here. Finally in the 19th century a ship creek was built here and anchorage has turned out to a major city in Alaska. Currently it is a booming part of Alaskan cruise ports with lots of annual cruise visitors coming here.
- Fairbanks: It is the largest city in the interior of Alaska. It is a part of the Fairbanks North Star borough. Even though it is considered the largest interior city in Alaska it has a small population of around 32,000 inhabitants. Fairbanks has a small port when compared to other cities due to its geographical position; however it is still part of the major Alaskan cruise ports.
- Haines: Haines is a very small city in Alaska with a population of less then 2,000. Although it was considered a city before now it is more of a town. Haines has a very scenic location and is a very good attraction for tourists. It is also an important Alaskan cruise port.
- Juneau: It is located in the Gastineau channel in Alaska. At one point it was the capital city of Alaska. Juneau has a very busy port and attracts lots of cruise and tourists throughout the year. It is considered to be in the top 3 major Alaskan cruise ports in the state.
- Ketchikan: This beautiful city is located in the south, close to Juneau in the Glacier Bay. It has a population of around 8000. The ideal position in the Glacier Bay and the beautiful surroundings has made this town a very popular tourist attraction. In fact it has one of the top 3 Alaskan cruise ports.
- Sitka: Sitka is a small town located on the west side of the Baranof Island in the Alexander Archipelago. It has the 4rth largest population in Alaska and is quite beautiful. The natural surroundings of this town make it an ideal port for cruise liners and Sitka has made its name in the list of top Alaskan cruise ports and destinations.
- Skagway: Skagway is yet another beautiful city within the Alexander Archipelago. It is situated very close to Juneau and has a very scenic natural surrounding. Skagway port is quite busy and falls in the major cruise destinations list. It is becoming very popular for cruise liners.
- Valdez: Valdez is very popular with bird enthusiastic. It is a medium sized town located in Alaska surrounded by beautiful mountains and greenery, which is snow, capped most of the year. Valdez also has a port and is a quite popular Alaskan cruise port. Many cruise ships stop here on a daily basis.
